Who’s ready for us to give away free comics? If you answered “me!”, then you’re in the right place.
We’ve been waiting for this since last year, but the much-anticipated day is finally here — “here” meaning Saturday, May 2nd, 10am–5pm. Whether you’re a veteran of this long-running event and its fresh companion or a newbie to both, please take a moment to read up on the following details, so that you know what to expect this time:
What exactly is Free Comic Book Day/Comics Giveaway Day?
Beginning in 2002, comic book shops world-wide have been celebrating “Free Comic Book Day” to promote reading and collecting comics. (If you’d like to read more about it, the official website is a good starting point.) New this year is the similar companion event, Comics Giveaway Day, with the same goal and a sparkling new name and coat of paint.
No matter the name, the objective remains the same — we love comics and want to share that love with you!
When and where is it?
It’s Saturday, May 2nd, 10am–5pm, at Wonderland Comics in Penfield. Our doors will open to the public promptly at 10am; before that, you might see our lights on and staff moving about, but that’s because we will be busily setting up for your arrival. We appreciate your patience until we officially open!
What are the set-up changes this year?
Our usual station will be set up outside to help with crowd control. (Signs will be posted to guide you. Look for the tent!) After picking up your free comics outside, please enter the store through our back door, proceed through the store to browse and make purchases, before exiting through the front door.
Which comics are free?
Comic publishers have printed a diverse selection of comics — for all age groups and interests — specially for today’s event, and we will have them available for you. To make it easy, we will have a designated display set up with the comics that are part of the promotion. (They are clearly marked with the “FCBD” or “CGD” logo on the cover and are color-coded with appropriate age ratings.) Our fantastic staff will be eager to help if you have any questions.
How many free comics can I have?
Every year, the awareness of and attendance for this event have grown steadily, and we anticipate this year will be the same. With that in mind, we want to make sure everyone is able to enjoy the giveaway offerings, so we ask that you please limit your choice to the one or two issues that you’re most excited to read.
Can I bring the kids?
Yes, absolutely. We pride ourselves on being a family-friendly store, and in fact we’ll have tons of comics designed just for younger readers. We also carry a wide range of science and activity kits, games, and books for kids, so there will be lots to look at. Bring the entire family!
Hey, have you seen/read/played —-?
Please be courteous to all attendees and keep conversations spoiler-free. With so many ways to consume media these days, it’s good to be mindful that not everyone is on the same schedule. Please don’t ruin surprises and plot twists for new movies, shows, games, or comic issues for other fans.
Can I update my pull list while I’m there?
If you have changes to make to your list, please email us. Past experience has taught us that we should expect the day to be very busy. Emailing updates will ensure that we get to your requests correctly and efficiently. Thank you in advance for understanding!
